meet Ayanna
Where are you from?
I’m from Boston, Massachusetts.
Besides cooking, what other passions and interests do you have?
Other passions I have are reading, I like inspiring and motivating people, and helping people become more healthy. I'm interested in nutrition and becoming a motivational speaker.
What would you tell other young people who want to join Future Chefs about the program?
I would tell them to come in with an open mind. Future Chefs is like having a support system in all aspects, whether that’s school, personal life, and financial areas. They welcome you with open arms like a second family.
What have you been doing since graduating from high school?
After high school I have been at Fitchburg State University, majoring in Business Management. I also hold a job at Dunkin Donuts while investing my time in my food service business. And even though I’m away from my siblings, I’m always there for them and it’s important to continue to help and guide them and answer their questions as they plan for life after high school. That’s an important part of my life as well.
What have you learned from your work or school experience since graduating from high school?
I’ve learned that it’s okay to take your time and not have everything together. Making sure you are surrounded by a strong support system is important. Tawanna always told me never to be afraid to reach out, to tell her what you’re struggling with and she will help. I’ve learned that asking for help is okay.
What are your school, career, and life goals over the next 3-5 years?
I’ve been planning out my life for the next 3-5 years recently and I feel like I have it down pat! So I would like to graduate from college. Careerwise I’d like to be self-employed. I’d like to have several businesses of my own and be versatile. I want to be an inspiration for young women like me and help them invest and create their own businesses. I hope to keep learning from others while teaching them.
How has the Future Chefs program impacted you?
I’ve grown so much through Future Chefs! I’m so grateful to have them in my life! In growing through Future Chefs, I’ve learned that failing isn’t the end of the road, it’s just the beginning of something better. Future Chefs has shown me never give up, there are endless possibilities to what you can do when you surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed.
