Chanell - Jamaica Water

When I first tried agua de jamaica it was in New York at one of my favorite Spanish restaurants. I was about 11 years old when I tried it, it had a very different taste. It was warm and cold at the same time, it had a very homey taste that made you feel almost nostalgic as if you've tasted this somewhere before but just can't quite remember but it felt just right. Where agua de jamaica truly originates from is Mexico however over time it migrated to other countries. The recipe had also changed in some countries with it having oranges and other citruses in it. From other spices like cloves intensifying the flavour giving it that extra little kick of that warmth I was talking about. The reason why agua de jamaica is called that is because the flower hibiscus was transported from Jamaica to Mexico and out of commemoration they named it that. It contains cinnamon sticks and star anise and dried hibiscus petals. The more traditional way involves zest like lime or orange. This is my story of agua de jamaica and facts about it.
